HWHS NHS making a difference

The HWHS NHS students are always trying to impact the community.  Here is just one small example of their volunteerism. I received this correspondence from Michael D. Maginn, Reason to Ride Volunteer:

Dear Mr. Tracy and Ms. O’Shea:

On Sunday, Sept. 8th, volunteers from the HWRHS National Honor Society manned the water stops at the fifth annual Reason to Ride, a fund-raising event for cancer research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Students from HWRHS have been volunteering for this event each year since it began in 2009.  And, each year, riders returning from the ride report how supportive and delightful they are in handing out water, encouragement and enthusiasm.  They man four water stops located in Wenham, Essex, Gloucester, and Ipswich, and, after the ride, they pack up their gear and leave their stations completely spotless.  The property owners on whose land the water stops are located also have mentioned how considerate these students are.

This year, the following NHS students participated.  You can be very proud of all of them:

Madeline Hines, Kayla Dowd, Marissa Meade, Frankie Bucco, Aaron Canon, Nathaniel Chmura, Ethan Whitman, Rae Sanchez, Matt Gillis, Morgan Sperry, Mellisa Kain, Juliette Fahey, Emily Lockard, Suzanne Rose, Elizabeth Rose, and Christopher OO.

Special mention must be given to Christopher OO for organizing these students and making last minute adjustments.  He is a natural leader, and we appreciate his support.

We look forward to NHS’s continuing participation as the Reason to Ride moves into its sixth year.

Best wishes,

Michael D. Maginn
