Teacher Professional Development EdCamp Style

During today’s early release time the middle and high school staffs participated in an EdCamp style professional development opportunity. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the integration and use of technologies that we have available at HWRHS and on the web.

Ed Camp Hamilton-Wenham was developed by a dedicated group of HW high school teachers who collaborated to develop an inexpensive yet powerful way for people to learn from one another.  The concept is simple, “Teachers teaching teachers”.   Some of the subjects presented today included: Harnessing the power of the Chrome Browser, Edmodo, Dropbox, Using Twitter to develop you Personal Learning Network, organizing with Outlook, Aspen X2 tips and many more.

Today’s “un-conference” was an excellent demonstration of the power of peer teaching and learning.  Participants were able to choose from 6-8 workshops in two different sessions and were also encouraged to bring their own devices (BYOD) to increase their personal comfort level.  This style of PD works because many of us have the expertise and were willing to share it with our colleagues with the goal to make HW a stronger force in the integration and use of powerful tools that support 21st Century Learning!
