By the end of June, the School Committee will need to decide whether the HWRSD will continue to administer the MCAS test or switch to the PARCC test for students next year. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has assembled informational materials regarding this decision here.
The PARCC test is a “next generation” assessment that measures students’ understandings through performance-based questions. The test is also primarily designed to be taken on a computer, tablet or other electronic device; though a pencil and paper option will exist for the near future. The PARCC website contains a wealth of information about the test, including online practice tests.
