On Friday, September 16th, we hosted a group of 23 high school students and three teachers from a school in Mingde Experimental School in Shenzhen, China. Each of the students from China was assigned a HWRHS Student to “shadow” for the day. They attended a regular class schedule and even had lunch in the cafeteria. We continue to find ways to begin the development of the Mandarin Program at the high school that will begin next school year. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to learn from their Chinese counterparts. HWRHS senior Tori Vivenzio said, “It was interesting to learn about the differences in our culture versus theirs. She told me that she goes to school from 8 AM until 9 PM”.
The shadow day may translate into a longer visit in late January or early February. We hope to eventually build up an exchange opportunity for ur students to travel to China as well.
